Grade 6

Age Requirement: Only children aged 12 years or younger are eligible to join Grade 6 class.

Written Assessment

    English

  • Creative writing: Letter, email, application, narrative and descriptive writing, express ideas coherently on a variety of familiar topics. Organize thoughts and use appropriate vocabulary to describe personal experiences (an accident you witnessed etc.), surroundings (describe your apartment etc.), imaginative themes (what you will do if you find yourself in a land of lost treasures. Describe your adventure etc.), celebration of events (the wedding of your cousin), informative topics (why trees are important, a day without electricity etc.).
  • Grammar concepts: Nouns and its types, pronouns, possessive pronouns, prepositions, adjectives (comparative, superlative), possessive adjectives, correct use of verbs, modal verbs, participles, gerunds, articles (a, an, the). Familiarity and proper usage of ""wh"" words. Punctuation (full stops, commas, question marks, speech marks, capitalization and exclamation marks). Apostrophe. Tenses, active/passive voice(simple present and past) and first conditional sentences.
  • Reading comprehension: Analyze or draw inferences from an unseen passage.
  • Listening: Watching short stories or movies and then answering questions or holding a discussion.
  • Reading Fluency: Reading fluency 120-150 words per minute.
  • Speaking fluency: Speaking fluency will be assessed through interviews and presentations e.g. introduce yourself, how do you unwind after a busy day, express your thoughts on what you do to relax yourself after a busy day etc. Tell a story from the pictures. (120-140 words per minute).

    Mathematics

  • Percentage: Conversion of % into common fractions and vice versa, conversion of % into decimal fractions and vice versa, calculating percentages, word problems, percentage of a given number using whole numbers and decimals, and discount
  • Algebra: Expressions, equations and exponents, forming expression and equations from daily life problems, substitution of values & manipulation of the subject in equation, algebraic fractions and operations between them, graphs of linear equations.
  • Sets: Concepts of a set and its members, notation (two forms), finite and infinite sets, singleton and empty sets, cardinality of a set, and subsets, types of sets, forms of sets - descriptive, tabular & set builder and their usage in problem solving, operation and properties of sets – union, intersection, difference & complement, laws of union, intersection and complement, and venn diagram.
  • Arithmetic: Numbers and operation, fractions and simplification, ratio and proportion, percentage, profit, loss, tax and discount etc., variations – direct and inverse, time, distance and speed, conversion of units.
  • Probability: Probability of simple events.

  • Use of calculator, set-square, and protractor is NOT ALLOWED
