Grade 7
Age Requirement: Only children aged 13 years or younger are eligible to join Grade 7 class.
Written Assessment
- Creative writing: DIRECTED WRITING: Letter Writing ( informal and formal). Email writing -(approximately 150-200 words). ESSAY WRITING: Narrative Writing, Descriptive writing, Factual essays (approximately 200-250 words). Rubrics: Coherence, imagination, description, vocabulary, spelling, sentence construction and basic grammar rules.
- Grammar concepts: Types of sentences , Conditional sentences, Participles, Gerunds Change of voice, Tenses, Modal verbs, Prepositions, Change of Narration.
- Reading comprehension: Analyze or make inferences from an unseen passage. It would be in accordance with students level of understanding and interest
- Listening: Listening to comprehension rates: 150-180 words/min.
- Reading Fluency: Reading fluency rate: 140-170 words per minute.
- Speaking fluency: Speaking fluency will be assessed through interviews and presentations, introduction about themselves. (120-140 words per minute).
- Arithmetic: Numbers and operations, fractions and simplification, Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, Profit, loss, tax and discount etc., Variations – direct and inverse, Time, distance and speed, Conversion of units
- Sets: Types of sets, Forms of sets - descriptive, tabular & set builder and their usage in problem solving, Operation and properties of sets – Union, Intersection, Difference & Complement, Laws of union, intersection and complement, Venn diagram.
- Algebra: Expressions, equations and exponents, Forming expression and equations from daily life problems, Substitution of values & Manipulation of the subject in equation, Algebraic fractions and operations between them, Graphs of linear equations.
- Angles: Sum of measure of the angles on a straight line and at a point, construction and measurement of angles with the help of a protractor, sum of measures of interior angles of a triangle and a quadrilateral, finding measure of an unknown interior angle of a triangle and a quadrilateral.
- Geometric properties and Practical Geometry: Construction of plane figures, Construction of medians, angle bisectors, right bisectors, altitude and diagonals, Alternate and corresponding angles, Tangent, sectors, arc and chord etc., Cyclic quadrilateral and its properties, Transformation - Reflect an object and find the line of reflection by construction; Translate an object, Identify and give precise description of transformation connecting given figures
- Information handling: Frequency distribution, Study and drawing to line graph, Bar graph, Pie graph , Calculation of probability of simple events, Mean, Median and Mode of Un-grouped data.

- Cells: What is cell? Plant and animal cells and their parts. Structures and function of main organelles.(Cytoplasm, nucleus, cell wall, cell membrane, chloroplast, DNA, mitchondria) Some specialized animal cells (RBC, neuron, and ciliated cell). Some specialized plant cells (Palisade cell & root hair cells). Identification and differentiation of cells, tissues, organ and organ system.
- Grouping and identifying Organism: Characteristics of living organisms, Viruses: What is a virus? How it replicates? What is a species? Species & reproduction. Using keys (Dichotomous keys) Identifying organisms. Constructing Key.
- Microorganisms & the environment: What are micro-organisms? (Bacteria, fungi, microscopic algae and protozoan). How micro-organisms grow? Food chains and webs: Construction of food chains, Food webs, Micro-organisms and decay. Role of microorganism as a decomposer.
- Reproduction in plants: Sexual and asexual modes

- Materials and their structure: Difference between a solid, liquid and a gas, changes in states, processes involved in these changes, the water cycle, atoms vs molecule, difference between element, compound and mixture, introduction to periodic table, groups vs periods, chemical symbols of different elements, use of different compounds in our daily life and their formulae, how to name a compound.
- Properties of materials: Metals vs non metals, how to compare a metal and a non metal, use of different metal mixtures like brass, bronze, steel etc., separating techniques (filtration, evaporation, distillation), differentiate between an acid and a base, their uses in daily life, how to work safely with acids and bases, hazard warning symbols, introduction to indicators (like litmus paper, universal indicator) and use of pH scale to measure pH of different compounds.
- Changes to materials: Understanding of simple chemical reactions, difference between reactant and product, burning, metals reacting with acid, water and oxygen, neutralization reactions and their use in daily life, ways to detect a chemical reaction.
- Forces and Energy: Gravity (Define Gravity, understand that the force of gravity acts between two objects), Weight and Mass (Define mass and weight and write its formula and units, practice using the using correct term weight and mass), Formation of the solar system (Where did the solar system come from?, facts about the solar system, the birth of star), Movement in Space (The Sun, Sun Gravity, Orbits of planets, Speed in space), Tides, Energy (What are tides, what cause the tides Effect of tides), changes in Energy), where does energy go (What is energy, energy store and transfers, storing energy)
- Earth Physics: Sound wave(where does sound come from?, sound wave on move, does sound wave require medium, Reflection of sound (Echo, Unwanted echoes), Structure of Earth (What do we know about the earth?), Changes in Earth (changes in earth, volcanoes, earthquakes), Solar and Lunar Eclipse (Shadows, Solar eclipse, Lunar eclipse).

- Light: Reflection of light (Define Reflection, Laws of of reflection, Reflection occur in Mirrors), Refraction of light (Define Refraction, Laws of of refraction, Refraction occur in lenses), Application of mirrors and lenses, Dispersion of light(Define Dispersion of light, Formation of rainbow), why we see colors(Color filter).
